Instructions
For
Aight of Spaides
Game Setup
A normal game uses two sets of playing cards. After shuffling,
distribute eight cards to each player. The cards in a player's hand
are not to be revealed to other players. Put the remaining cards
face down on the table to form the deck. To begin the game, take
the top card and place it face up on the table.
Turns
Turns can proceed in any order, but conventionally they rotate
clockwise around the table, starting from whoever knows the game
best. The game proceeds much like Uno; during a player's turn,
he/she must play a card in either the same rank or the same suit as
the last card played. If he/she cannot do this, or chooses not to,
then he/she may pick up a single card from the deck. If he/she
cannot play this card either, then his/her turn is over. If, at
any time, the deck is empty, then all but the top card of the pile
of played cards are shuffled, and placed face down as the new deck.
Penalties
When a player makes an illegal move, or fails to do something that
he/she is supposed to, then another player can penalize him/her
by giving him/her a card from the deck and announcing, "Improper!"
For example, if a player plays a Two of Spades on a Five of Diamonds,
and someone penalizes him/her, then he/she must pick up a card as
well as take back the bad play.
Unmau
If a player gets rid of all of his/her cards, then he must announce,
"Unmau" (un-m-OW),
and pick up five new cards from the deck. This is a good
thing, because he/she also receives a pending rule. At any
time during the game, he/she can use up his/her pending rule by
creating a new rule for the game, and distributing three cards from
the deck to any players he/she desires. A new rule can be almost
anything, even a modification of the rules printed here.
In other words, the rules could be completely different from these
by the end of a game.
Eight of Spades
The Eight of Spades is initially the only special card in the game.
When a player plays the Eight of Spades, he/she must announce,
"Aight of Spaides" (EYE-t of sp-EYED-z),
and immediately create a new rule.
Winning and Ending
Initially, there is no way of winning a game of Aight of Spaides.
The game can end by mutual consent of all the players.
